Father Frederick Faber
1814 - 1863
Hymn Writer and Theologian
Father Faber was ordained in the Church of England in 1839. Proceeding then to Rome to study for his position as a rector, he found himself drawn to the sacraments, the liturgical calendar, the truth of papal authority and apostolic succession, and the devotions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to Mary. In 1845, he followed his hero, Cardinal Newman, into the Catholic Church, eventually becoming the founding provost the Oratory of St Philip Neri in London. (Source)
Among his most well-loved works is the Spiritual Conferences, truly a classic. His writing tends to be cut-and-dry, dwelling more on the practical side of living out the Catholic Faith.
